And if you too, love "boat drinks": Hale Pele! Plus Andina, Island Cafe, Oba, and Tapalaya.

Gluten Free
Restaurants with huge menus work well, as there are so many alternatives and it's great to have an array of choices. Enjoy salads and grilled ahi, steak bites and skewers. Asian (especially Seres in the Pearl) and Mexican foods are good choices in general. Always ask about preparation if you need to really stick to the GF thing, as there are many screw-ups out there.

Restaurants are at least paying more attention now. Mama Mia's has a good gluten free pasta (yay!!!), and will make any dish with it when requested. (Dinner, not Happy Hour). Thirst claims 90% of menu is or can be made gluten free. My favorite buns ever are at Fogo de Chao (and they have phenomenal steak bites there as well). Deschutes has a gluten-free beer, God bless 'em, and our cider scene is going crazy!

Bye & Bye
(THE vegan/GF HH place!)
McCormick&Schhmicks (20 items)
Portland City Grill (20 menu items)

** If you have a serious gluten intolerance, please know that I am not by any means an official authority, but just offering some suggestions. And please let me know any great finds!

Arrive at Happy Hour EARLY if you are trying to get a table for 8+! Call for details, but these are common spots that don't necessarily charge room fees, but
of course do require some imbibing:

Benson Hotel -- Quiet and gorgeous
Chapel Pub -- Nice little private room
Old Town Pizza -- Both locations
Seres -- Long group table space in bar
Spaghetti Factory -- Small groups, must buy lunch/dinner
Thirst -- Variety of options

Best Pizza
Okay... I am from Chicago where they are known for their pizza, and have struggled to find much of a BEST list, but I want one!! I'm not taking responsibility except for what I've found and enjoyed as listed below. Email me with favorites and I'll see what gets mentioned most, and try it again. At HAPPY HOUR only, please.

Wood-fired and delicious:
Serratto, Nostrana, Piattino, Life of Pie

Wood-fired and pretty good:
Bar Due, Firehouse

No Happy Hour, but Apizza Scholls and Lovely Fifty-Fifty (Lovely Hula Hands owners) have the best I've found, in addition to the aforementioned. PDX Pipeline came up with a good list, and ended up with highlights being Ken’s Artisan, Escape From New York, Vicente’s and Flying Pie.

Just reminding you about this category. What are you in the "mood" for??!
